The focus of WiPS is to provide enterprise-size wineries with the ability to effectively manage and track their wine production on a global scale. The significant aspect of WiPS is that it allows wineries to view and utlize a multi-plant structure within the application. The core Wine Production System (WiPS) is composed of several tightly integrated functional areas.
CORE MODULES
The Harvest module defines the principle raw material input (grapes) to winemaking in terms of its provenance; it defines the busines relationship between grower and winery as well as tracking the receipt of fruit into the crush facility. The system allows the assignment of multiple Intended Uses and Plants of Crush to each grape contract.
Grape Payment is closely integrated with the Harvest module. Table-based business rules provide for the calculation of the price to be paid to the outside grower based on the contract structure. The final price agreed to pay becomes the basis for the grape price adjustment to the standard inventory.
Winemaking and Cellar Operations provides the ability to plan, execute and record all winemaking and cellar activities that oocur from the receipt of fruit to final bottling of finished goods, considering all materials may be stored at, and moved, between, multiple plants and possess multiple brand, intended use and ownership identities.
The Work Order Create module utilizes winemaker-defined processes as templates. This module generates detailed cellar work orders that enforce consistent, proven operational standards, both in executing the work and recording the exact task related date.
Laboratory Analysis refers to material samples analyzed by laboratory methods and are input into the system and are to be linked to vessel and blend lot in the correct time sequence. Data handling techniques ensure that the analyses can be attached to the correct material even after it has left the vessel from which the analytical sample was drawn.
Intended Use and Trial Blend Finshed goods items are predicted in the grape contract and bulk material inventory as Intended Use codes. This facilitates grape acquisition planning over a multi-year horizon.
Dry Goods enables tracking of inventory levels, by Lot, by usage, purchase transactions and cost of all Dry Goods used in the cellar. Dry Goods may be easily transferred from Plant to Plant and issued to work orders at Plants other than the Plant of storage.
Cost Accounting Starting with the grape cost captured from the Harvest module, costs can be added through allocation, direct application to a specific tank or by work order activity. Reports show costs at Plant, Brand, Varietal and Intended Use level.
In addition to the above core modules, WiPS also integrates seamlessly to these additional modules.
Grape Intake Planning and Receipt allows the vineyard manager and the winemaker to plan grape intake from company owned and outside growers into the recieving winery by date; specifying load count, expected tonnage and crush stream. Filed Grape Sample data is captured and presented to the planner. The winemaker can edit this plan to indicate a specific additive regimen for the crush operation. In real time, it displays up-to-the minute status of grape receipt against plan. Users may view this plan throughout the enterprise. Weigh-Scale operations uses the planned schedule to capture the data required to generate Crush Dockets, Agricultural Inspection forms and fully compliant Weigh-Master Certificates. All data captured at the Scale during this operation is passed to the winmaking system.
Barrel Management Purchased Barrel Groups reflecting country, forest, year and cooper are credited with possessing user-defined attributes that will be automatically passed on to the wines. Individually identified barrels, representing multiple barrel groups, may be assembled into a barrel tank containing a single blend lot. Barrels are located by warehouse, row, stack and level to facilitate retrieval for barrel operations including filling, topping and empty. Barcode scanning using Windows CE portable devices enables rapid data transport to and from the cellar. Both fixed rack and moveable rack mode is supported. Barrel aging days are automatically clocked to the wines and charged to the individual barrel history.
Document Imager Legal documents (such as signed copies of contracts between the winery enterprise and outside customers and vendors, especially grape growers) are key elements of winery management and administration. Users, including contract managers, winemakers, grower representatives and finance dept. staff, may require access to the original documents on an immediate basis. These staff may be located at remote sites without physical access to the hard copy files. The ability to search for and display related document images while working with grower contracts, weigh tags or payment activities, enhances user efficiency and provides better service to the enterprise and its business partners.
